Would Smoking Methamphetamine Until 16 Weeks Of Pregnancy Affect Fetus?

My friend is 24 weeks pregnant and smoked meth like 11 times after 16 week mark (taking one or two hits each time she smoked) but she is quitting due to realizing there s a special little human growing inside her and can feel inside her. She doesn t want the baby to be taken away, is there any hope that her baby won t test positive if its tested at birth? I do know she takes vitamins and eats all the time. She also went to every check up and sees that baby has developed very well and is kinda a big baby for 24weeks. She just let life get to her and screwed up, but with our support she wants to make it right.

The consumption of Methamphetamine can lead to various types of developmental anomalies particularly that of central nervous system. Early phase of 3-4 months period of organogenesis is vital for development of organs such as brain and nervous system. There can be issues with microcephaly, dim working of neurons or other problems if the dosage was that enough to cross the placental barrier and suppress the child neurology development.
