Baby Having Running Nose With Mucus, Temperature Drops At Night. Could It Be Hypothermia?
My 1 year old baby boy has been having running nose with mucus and cough for more than a week. Initially he had fever, which had subsided after the first 2 days. However, his body temperature continues dropping at night, once lowest at 34.8C. I tested with my 4 year old daughter at the same time she recorded above 36C. Does this qualify as hypothermia? Temperature aside, he is active. However, his cough has been getting worse. His cough sounded a lot of phlegm stuck in his throat, but I'm lost as to how I can help to extract that out. I have visited the nearest doctor twice, but the doctor does not seem to be alarmed and no anti-biotic was prescribed. I scared whether my baby is infected with TB. He is currently taking prospan for cough and adezio cetirizine hcl 1 mg for flu.
Hi, Thank you for asking question on health care magic. Your son is suffering from URTI. You need not worry about TB. TB is suspected only when he suffers from cough with expectoration for 2-3 weeks along with low grade fever, loss of appetite and lethargy. Take an antibiotic like erythromycin and antihistamine for a few days with the advice of your doctor. That is enough. If he is having breathlessness in additon to the present symptoms, you need to consult pediatrician to arrive at a diagnosis. Hope this answer will serve your purpose Please feel free to ask any more queries if required Take care Dr.M.V.Subrahmanyam MD;DCH Associate professor of pediatrics
