How To Treat Leg Pain In A 18 Months Old Child?

Hello, my daughter (18mon) had sudden weakness (and maybe pain?) in her left leg today at daycare. Her teacher said she fell while trying to walk several times. They called me right away and by the time I got there, she was walking fine. It lasted for about 30 min. I called our family ped who recommended that we visit the Childrens ER just to be safe. They did an xray, said there is no injury (fracture etc), which we knew, and then sent us home. I'm still worried. Next steps?

if your daughter is still in pain or limping then there are a number of different diagnosis that could explain her symptoms.

the commonest would be a toddlers fracture of the tibia bone (shin bone).

these don't always show up straight away on X-ray but only a week or two later.

if she seems to be localizing the pain to her leg and she is otherwise well with normal blood work then we often treat as this in a cast and re X-ray to try and make the diagnosis.

at this age an above knee cast is required usually only for 3 weeks.

best wishes
