sir, what do you mean by kudal etram? my auntys son is suffering from this issue. he says he is having diarrhea when he has kudal etram. he says he is not gaining weight due to this kudal etram. what is the exact medical terminology in english for this fictious kudal etram. what is the exact remedy or the treatment available to this kudal etram. please reply me at: YYYY@YYYY (murugan, physiotherapist, chennai).

welcome to hcm, actually when there is continuous diarroea in children there is a chance of small intestine going inside the large intestine which is called hernia in english. when the intestine comes out of the abdominal wall they call it kudal irakkam. both are hernias. but you have to understand not all diarrhea will cause herniation. diarrhoea and abdominal pain has to be first treated with adequate fluid intake (oral rehydration solution) severe dehydration has to be treated with iv fluids. drugs like loperamide must be avoided as it will cause the external sphincter to constrict and the infectious agents will stay inside the intestine and may cause gastroenteritis or inflamatory bowel disease..
