Are Rashes On Hands And Fingers Signs Of Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma?

default
Posted on Sat, 8 Oct 2016
Question: I believe I may have Anaplastic Large-Cell Lymphoma. During a routine physical exam, my GP noticed a small lump in my neck. A scan revealed a 3 cm "cyst" and a needle biopsy was ordered. Preliminary results show cancer cells present and a consult w/ specialist has been ordered.
I had or have no symptoms, loss of appetite, fatigue or fever. What I did have, and havent told Dr yet (I didn't think they were related) are 2 "open sore" types of rashes on the backs of hands, near my little fingers. They are on both hands and on outside of both legs, above the ankles (hands about size of dime, legs bigger than quarter). I've had both rashes for over 3 months and they would not go away, even after I applied liberal amounts of neosporin & the like.
Thoughts??

I am Dr Saad Sultan and will be answering your query. I have read and understood your health concerns..

It would be better if you send me the photograph of the lump so that its site in neck region can be appreciated. Needle biopsy can only tell you about the cells whether they are of which type like normal, borderline, malignant mean cancerous. But one can't tell about the type of the tumor. As you are talking about anaplastic lymphoma, which I doubt.

The best for you at this time is to seek general surgeon advice. He will properly examine you and will conduct investigations like CT of the neck . He will definitely involve ENT surgeon in devising the future plan in your case.

Hope your query is adequately addressed, please feel free to ask me anytime.

The lump was not visible. It was NOT on thyroid, but near it, near carotid artery & jugular. (Lower left portion of my neck, just above my clavicle...

What do you think it might be?

I really appreciate your follow up.

Most common causes of swelling above the clavicle in your age group are lymphoma, tuberculous lymph node enlargement, secondaries due to abdominal tumor, non specific lymphadenitis and sarcoidosis...

Again, it is for your information , but you need to examined clinically by the surgeon for proper management.

Hope it helps

Thank you for your follow-up.
I have a brief question.
Squamous cell carcinoma is skin cancer, right? I have rash-type of thing on backs of both hands. What appears likely is that cancer cells entered my blood-stream and were filtered out by a lymph XXXXXXX in my neck. This lymph filters blood and cancer cells. The cancers cells multiplied & took over lymph. Now, I need to have it removed and see if cancer spread (mestastized) to any other parts of my body/organs....right??

I appreciate your follow up.
Yes , it is a skin cancer. And usually skin cancer metastasize slowly. If not treated , they will spread to other parts and become difficult to treat and fatal. That's why , you should meet your surgeon as early as possible to fix it.
Hope it helps
