Kitamine per se is an anesthetic medicine and was never used for psychiatric issues until recently. Marred by its repute of being a drug of abuse, it was never popular. However recently the interest over use of kitamine has increased. At present the status is that FDA has not approved the kitamine for depression but many psychiatrists across the globe are using it as an off label medicine for depression. The most commonly used way of administration is either intra-venous or intra-muscular.
Intranasal kitamine is still in the research and is not available yet over the counters by prescription. This drug is specially procured for research purpose from the company and is not available for patient use as of now.
However dont be dishearted as the effect of intranasl kitamine is almost the same as IV or IM kitamine and the IV/IM options are available with the psychiatrists.
