i am 39 weeks pregnant, i will be 40 weeks as of tomorrow with no signs of being close to delivery. pregnancy number 4, baby number 3 (all other babies, i had a history of preterm labor and all were delivered at 37 weeks with LOTS of bed rest and hospital visits. i do not want to use pitocin, but i have been doing my own research and found the an herb called fenugreek may stimulate the uterus. can you tell me how safe this is? there is little to be found as far as taking this as something that can naturally induce labor.
Hello, I have gone through your query and understood the concern. There is no well-documented evidence for the efficacy of fenugreek as an induction agent in labor, at least in allopathic medicine. If you do not have any contraindications, you can try yogic postures that help to get proper progress into labor. There are several methods available and you need a proper trainer for this. Walking is also a good supportive treatment to ensure timely arrival of the baby. If you fail to go into labor even after ten days past your dates, you need to be induced with fetal monitoring. Now-a-days, prostaglandins are being increasingly used with more safety to induce labor if simple measures like stripping of the membranes fail. Hope your query has been answered. Wish you safe motherhood.
