Is Prolonged Bleeding Normal After C Section Delivery?

default
Posted on Tue, 6 Oct 2015
Question: Hi there,

I had a C-section on April 7 2015. After the C-section I bled more than a month.
I'm still bleeding for 5-7 days for every 2 weeks, though it is not heavy (very low), but I see small clots in my pads or when go for urination.

Could you please let me know if this is normal.

I BF & pump my baby.

Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Dysfunctional uterine bleeding

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear, I have gone through your question and understand your concerns. Prolonged bleeding after caesarean section can be due to subclinical endometritis, which is a very low grade infection of uterine lining infection.
If still you are having bleeding every 2 weekly, you are likely having post delivery dysfunctional uterine bleeding, which can develop after post partum endometritis. Other causes can be uterine fibroid.
I would suggest you to get a ultrasound done to rule out any fibroid in the uterus.
If no fibroid is there, then you should consult an OBGYN to get appropriate treatment of post delivery dysfunctional uterine bleeding by progesterone hormone therapy.
Hope you found the answer helpful. Please do get back for further queries.
Wishing you good health.
