Hi and thank you for asking!
I read your query and understood your concerns.

Since you are in the states you will be able to find Benicar HCT 40/12,5 mg which is equivalent of Olmezest ch.

Also you will find Bystolic 2,5 mg which is equivalent of Nebicard.

Hope this will be of help!
Wish you health!

Hello Dr Shehu,

I take two medicines a day to control blood pressure. i just want to ask you whether these two medicines are needed. I do a regular checkup of my blood pressure and it seems to be always around 120/75 ( this taking into consideration that I am eating both tablets) but do I need both the tablets? Is there any harmful side effects of the same. I am eating Olmezest ch 40 since 2014 August and Nebicard 2.5 since last 6 months. Is there a way I can come back to only one medicine and how? and which medicine should be preferred.

Secondly, Do i need a prescription to get these medicines? Does changing medicines is harmful for body?

Thanks a lot,
XXXX

Hi back,

If the Nebicard was added 6 months ago in order to stabilise your HR and BP I wouldn't recommend to stop it directly. In most of the cases you may experience withdrawal symptoms (tachycardia and hypotension crisis).

If you were my patient I would suggest to try stopping it gradually. I would start by advising you to take Nebicard 1.125 mg (half actual dose) for 1-2 weeks.

If you will not have withdrawal symptoms after two weeks you may stop taking Nebicard.

Wish you health!

Hi back,

Most probably you will take BP pills for the rest of your life. However a healthy lifestyle and diet may help to control and stabilise your BP and they may help to reduce the dosage of medications.

Unfortunately you need to have medical prescription to buy these pills (you can't get them without a prescription).

Hope this will be of help!
Wish you health!
