Question : i have ibs, and I've been struggling with diarrhea for the last week or so. I have been taking Welchol, which usually helps, but not so much this time. Yesterday I added fiber powder and thought I was much better. This afternoon I have started to feel like I need to urinate all the time, and I have a slight fever. My diarrhea is better, although I have lots of gas. I would like to wait until morning and call a doctor. Am I safe to do that?

Brief Answer:
IBS needs supportive care, no worries

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for asking

I read your question and i understand your concern. IBS is an ongoing physiological decline of bowel functions and present now and then with such flares. All one needs is good diet and lifestyle precautions to reduce those episodes. Nothing to worry about of course. Just treat the symptoms and avodi the triggers. Eat small frequent meals, avoid dairy products, fatty foods, spicy foods, processed & canned foods, chocolates, soda, beer, coffee etc. Take fibrous diet and take more fluids. Use peppermint and yogurt in every meal as former is best probiotic and later is best antispasmodic.

The symptoms of urination are likely an irrational one due to affected bowel but no harm in getting a urine exam to rule out UTI for these urgency and frequency symptoms.

I hope it helps. Take good care of yourself and dont forget to close the discussion please.

Are you saying my bladder irritation may be the result of my bowel upset? Why the fever? It's not quite 100, so it is not very elevated

Brief Answer:
Possibility

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for getting back to me

Yes it might be a possibility that this IBS flare might be affecting bladder habits as well. As bowels and bladders are adjacent in pelvis. One under irritation affect the other. But it could be UTI. Thats why i suggested both urine as well as stool exam. With fever, infection suspicion is ther and should be ruled out.

I hope it helps.
