Brief Answer:
Do sitz baths!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about this abscess that you have reported. Seen the fact that it is burst and the pain decreasing, it is a good sign and healing would set in. I will recommend sitz baths which consist in adding iodine to water in a bowl. Sit inside for 15mins at least twice a day and after each stool. This would help control the infection and accelerate healing.

I hope this helps. i wish you well. Feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.

With my present condition I cannot go and get A sitz .. I have order one but cannot get it until monday
It is difficult to sit right now for fifteen minutes

Regards and thank you

Brief Answer:
Yes, but less effective!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for this follow up question.

Yes you can apply Iodine directly but the thorough washing effects from the sitz bath would be lost and this would not be as effective. Try as hard as you can to do the sitz bath. You would not regret it.

I wish you well and let me know if there are any further concerns you would like us to address at this time.

Hello Dr.Ditah
Some additional help need please
I misunderstood the proper way to use the sits bath and only started using it the right way today .. ( squatting over the steam rather that immersing ....which was rather silly of me )
..
This abscess is inside rather than outside so it is difficult and painful ...there is still some pus in there which I am hoping that the sitz bath will now help ..there is still some swelling but a lot of it has gone down ..
I am cleaning the area with clean paper towel rather than cloth because it is easier and less painful .. the paper towel is the good kind ..So i hope that alright

IF you can clear up the following below i will appreciate it.
1. I am presently using Advil with ibuprofen for the pain ..I am going to start to start a dose of Ampiciilin (500mg ) to help with infection is it okay to use together with the advil
2. There is a constant leakage of blood should i apply a bandage ( the abscess is between by two but cheeks )
3. Can you give me an idea generally how long before i should see additional signs of healing
I appreciate your assistance so far and look forward to hearing from you

thank you

Brief Answer:
Do not wipe with tissue, use wipe which are moist!

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

1. I am presently using Advil with ibuprofen for the pain ..I am going to start to start a dose of Ampiciilin (500mg ) to help with infection is it okay to use together with the advil?

Answer: It is okay to take these drugs together. However, I do not think it is necessary to take antibiotics unless they have been recommended by your treating doctor.

2. There is a constant leakage of blood should i apply a bandage ( the abscess is between by two but cheeks )

Answer: If you can place a wipe to help with the leaking so as to prevent it from soiling the underwear, that is fine.

3. Can you give me an idea generally how long before i should see additional signs of healing

Answer: The main sign of healing would be a marked reduction in pain and cessation of abscess flow. If this abscess continues to flow and or the pain stays the same, it may suggest that the opening is small and needs to be increased through a minor surgery. This would need that you consult your doctor on this. Give yourself 48hours before considering to do so.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.

thank u so much for response if i use the wipe I am worried it has cleansing chemical which would haves bad effect
I have cottenelle fresh care flushable cleansing wipe do you think that ok
doctor
Answered by Dr. Chobufo Ditah (3 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
Yes, that is okay!

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

The wipes are skin friendly and preferable in this case. Remember sitz baths after every stool and thus thorough cleansing with wipes may not be mandatory as the sitz baths would ensure this.

I wish you well.

Hello Dr. Ditah
Thank you so far for your Help and Advise .. Its has been invaluable
The wipes are wonderful and the sitz bath seems to work well
The Swelling and pain has somewhat decreased
I have been keeping the area clean and following the guidelines

I have started on the Antiboitics and I am Using the Advil Ibuprofin ( Before the Abscess came I had the Fever and Chills this has since gone but I now have an oncoming cough I would generally have to use antibiotics for this )

Please let me know what you think of the following
......
Even though the swelling has decreased there is still some closer to the are of the hole/cut .... I have been applying a hot water bag to area this has been helping with the pain also I has been massaging and squeezing the general are to help with the flow.
Question 1 .. is is okay to continue applying the hot water bag ( heat ) and
squeezing the area ?

Question 2. I have bought an Infection prevention ointment( contains Bactracin Zinc/NEOMycin
Sulphate etc ) is it okay to apply to the affected area ?

Question 3. I have some Anti-bacterial Chloride Medicated Pads Adhesive pads Which I want to
apply to the infected area ( This is because there is a hole and a side cut I think has
gotten a little bigger the pads I think will help with the infection and keep a little
control ) Should I do This ?
Question 4 I anticipate I might have problems with my motions so I have bought a stool softener is it ok to
use a laxative if I have to ?

Question 5. Can you recommend a cough syrup that would be ok to use with the above medication?

Thank you so much for your time and I am awaiting your answers

Much regards
doctor

Brief Answer:
It is okay to use stool softeners!

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Question 1 .. is is okay to continue applying the hot water bag ( heat ) and
squeezing the area ?

I will recommend against this at this time. The Sitz baths would help with all this. Stop manipulating this area more than necessary as this may rather delay healing than help with.

Question 2. I have bought an Infection prevention ointment( contains Bactracin Zinc/NEOMycin
Sulphate etc ) is it okay to apply to the affected area ? It is okay to apply but this would make no difference in the treatment. Should you discontinue, I would have no issues with this.

Question 3. I have some Anti-bacterial Chloride Medicated Pads Adhesive pads Which I want to apply to the infected area ( This is because there is a hole and a side cut I think has gotten a little bigger the pads I think will help with the infection and keep a little control ) Should I do This ?

This is not necessary. A bigger hole would help in drainage and healing. If this hole were not big enough, increasing the opening would have been done surgically. This is no reason to get worried at this time.

Question 4 I anticipate I might have problems with my motions so I have bought a stool softener is it ok to use a laxative if I have to ?.

I am fine with this. Feel free to continue.

Question 5. Can you recommend a cough syrup that would be ok to use with the above medication?

No cough syrup for the moment....Not all cough needs treatment as most episodes are caused by viruses and antibiotics make no change. For now, it is a big NO unless we find reasons in future to consider a cough syrup and/or antibiotics.

I hope the above answers are clear enough for your understanding. Let me know if there is anything more you would want us to talk about at this time.
