Brief Answer:
It may take a few more days for the stool frequency to come down

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone carefully through the details provided by you. In most cases, loose motions in children is caused due to a virus called rotavirus where antibiotics are ineffective. But let me assure that passing stool 10 times a day can be normal in infants and I would not really worry if your child passes stool 7-9 times a day. All you need to do is to give extra amount of breast feeding, or if that is not applicable, give ORS or Pedialyte to replenish the lost water and salts. Unless the child grows lethargic, I would not get concerned.

Gutflox is an antibiotic. When you have started it, please complete the course of 5 days. But it will provide relief only if the cause was bacterial. The loose motions are not likely to stop all of a sudden. It may still take 3-7 days (from the onset) to stop. You may give zinc supplementation with Zinconia Syr 2ml once daily for 5 days. It will help in the intestinal healing as the diarrhoea causes some damage to the inner wall of the intestines.

Be patient. Give ORS and the medicines. It would soon be fine.

Hope that helps.

Brief Answer:
The mashed biscuits could have led to digestion problems and diarrhea

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing back.

I would not have suggested early introduction of semisolids at this age. May be, I would perhaps waited till 6 months of age. It is possible that the child had difficulty in digesting the newly introduced complex carbohydrates of the biscuits and the frequency of passage of stools had increased due to the same. I would not recommend anything other than mother's breast milk at this age. Just continue it and things would be fine. Unless the child grows lethargic, you need not worry.

Hope that helps.

Brief Answer:
All you need to do: give increased breast feeding.Weight loss not unusual

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing back.

The passage of loose stools may continue for a few days and it is also not unusual for a child to loose some weight during such periods. But all you need to do is to give extra amount of breast feeding to compensate for the lost water and salts.

You need not panic.

Brief Answer:
You need not worry. Just continue ORS and zinc supplement

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing back.

Passing watery and green stool 2-3 times is absolutely acceptable. I would not worry about it. Just give ORS from time to time. Green stool occurs due to rapid transit of fecal matter through large intestine leaving little time for the bile pigments to get converted to the yellow coloured pigments of stool. It is not a cause for concern. Give the zinc supplementation for around 5 days.

You need not worry. It would soon be fine.

Brief Answer:
No need to worry.

Detailed Answer:
As I have already mentioned, there is no need to worry even if the diarrhoea continues for a while. Irrespective of the frequency of passage of stool, just give ORS and things would be fine. Giving around 400-600 ml of ORS per day should be reasonable for your child but there is no limit on the same.

Hope that helps.
