Brief Answer:
The chance of seizures is very less.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for posting your query.

I have noted the symptoms of your child and his current medications.

Epilepsy is a fully treatable disease and the chance of seizures is greatly reduced with the use of anti-epileptic medications.

Levipil (levetiracetam) is a safe and effective anti-epileptic drug and it controls seizures in about 80% of children. So, there is a small risk of getting seizures despite taking levipil. In that case, the dose of levipil may be increased, or another anti-epileptic medication may be started.

Levipil is safe, however, in some children, it may cause skin rash and behavioural changes.

I hope my reply has helped you.

I would be pleased to answer, if you have any follow up queries or if you require any further information.

Thank u Sir for the speedy reply.
Again one more doubt..He is so interested in reading books and will read continuosly for almost 2., 2.30 hrs if i wont tell to stop.also he watch TV , Computer games etc.For how long he can use all these at one stretch? I have a strong belief that due to the excess use of all these, he got the disease at the age of 12 ,before six mnths. And now I restricted all these.

Again, in some nights he is so disturbed in sleep and wont get a sound sleep.at that time, if i call him in the morng at abt 6.30 am frm his sleep, whether there is a chance for the seizure?Actually, he had seizures at that times when i didnt have started the medication.

Brief Answer:
Reading is alright.

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for getting back.

Reading books is alright and would not increase the risk of seizures.

However, watching TV, playing video games or using ipad, for long duration may precipitate seizures. So, we should restrict their use for a maximum of one hour at a stretch.

Also, lack of sleep or sleep deprivation may aggravate seizures. At least 7-8 hours of good sleep is needed.

Best wishes,

Dr Sudhir Kumar MD DM (Neurology)
