Suggest Treatment For Panic Attacks

Question: Dear Sir,
Actually in 2013 when I was returning to home suddenly I felt hyperventilation, and for that reason I have to admit in a Nursing Home. After checking up all the issues, doctor told that due to some panic I felt that hyperventilation. The effect was continued for 2 days. And after that I am okay but sometimes(very rare once in 3 months) I suddenly feel anxious regarding my health without any reason. At that time I hold the breathe for 30 seconds and after 30 seconds it gradually reduces. Recently when I went to doctor for regular health check-up and told my doctor regarding my Panic attack and the anxious feeling. So he prescribed Seronorm 50 mg and Melzap .25 (SOS). But after taking the first dose of Seronorm 50 mg I feel very bad. And that time I really understand what anxiety is. There are lot of side effects I realized about the medicine so I stopped it after taking my first dose. But it is already 2 days past. Till now I am feeling very anxious, such type of anxiety I have never experienced before. I am doing meditation daily for controlling my anxiety. I was really very much happy with my life and with my family before taking this medicine, but now my moods changes frequently. I don't want any medicine to control my anxiety. I want a normal life without medicine. So is it a right decision that I have taken not to take any medicine for controlling anxiety but doing meditation daily.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for using healthcare magic. I, Dr Abhishek Kapoor, would help you in this query.

I have panic disorder. In that case, you could either try some antidepressant like paroxetine/ escitalopram or low dose benzodiazepine. These would help to control further attacks. In your case, panic attacks are very in-consistence. In that case, there is no need to take any antidepressant. You can try some benzodiazepine on sos basis and relaxation exercise like JPMR. These would help you to come anxiety symptoms.

In case, you have more query, you can ask.
