Question : Hello Doctor,

My husband has had his umbilical hernia operated on yesterday (via incision and with mesh) - he has been hiccuping all day today, is that normal?

Yes it is common for hiccups following Umbilical hernia surgery as hiccups occur due to irritation of diaphragm or intestines .

During umbilical hernia the intestines will be handled and hence there occurs hiccups which can last for a day or two .

Don't worry , it will go off. If it persists ask your doctor for a prescription of Levosulpride and use it .
