What Causes Constant Pressure In The Pelvis And Vaginal Pain After IVF Treatment?

Posted on Tue, 5 Jul 2016
Question: Hi, after an IVF treamtment in end march I had constant pressure in pelvis and vaginal pain. In may, they found in a cervical swab Enterococcus faecalis bacteria. I got Amoxicilin Clavunalate (based on an antibiogram) for 7 days and Macmirror vaginal capsultes for 12 days. Even though I didn't have the symptoms while on therapy, they came back as soon as I stopped. Can you please advise what to do? The bacteria is sensitive to Penicilins, Amoxicilin, Ampicillin and Ciprocinal. Thanks, BR, XXXX

Hi, beside pelvic pressure and vaginal pain (on and off since after Crinone gel) I have occasional pain in thr lower belly and a slightly more frequent need to urinate (but not burning like in UTI).
I had one pregnancy at 21, but had an abortion. Since then, no pregnancy. Husband and I have been TTC for 2 years and had an unsuccessful IVF in march. We want to go for round 2, but it is not possible until I'm free from infection. XXXX

Brief Answer:
UTI or PID should be ruled out. Do following investigation.

Detailed Answer:
Hello Dear,

Thanks for your updated information. I understand your concern.

In this case, Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) and Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID) should be ruled out through proper investigations.

I suggest to undergo one routine urine examination and culture test to confirm the diagnosis of urinary infection. You may need to undergo laparoscopy to rule out PID. They can give above clinical features.

Proper antibiotic can be given following confirmation of the diagnosis. Ampicillin with Sulbactum plus Doxycycline OR Ciprocinal etc can be prescribed as per test report. Kindly, consult with your treating doctor for above mentioned tests and complete prescription.

Some preventive measures:

1) Drink more water to flush out body toxin. Take Cranberry juice in the morning.

2) Empty bladder in time and maintain genital hygiene properly (before and after sex).

3) Chemical bath products should be avoided. Use clean and cotton underwear.

Hope, I have answered your query. Wish your good health and take care.
