Question: Dear Dr,

Could you please have a look at the attached picture of a birthmark. It's slightly darker now than it used to be. Is there any reason to suspect cancer?

doctor

Brief Answer:
Excision & a Histopathology analysis best

Detailed Answer:
Hi there XXXX
Apologies for the delay in answering this query. For some reason it appeared that another consultant was answering this query or it appeared as thus on my system.
To be brutally honest, in these cases, one has to have seen the lesion earlier to compare it to its present status & for this reason I always advise my patients' to photograph their moles when all is well so they have a baseline record.
Going by your view on its change in colour & your Scandinavian profile, I strongly recommend an Excision & histopathological analysis of the lesion. This comes more strongly recommended if there is a family history of any skin cancer or any dysplasia in moles of family members' or a similar history in your case.
I do not wish to alarm you or suspect cancer & have no doubt it is currently benign but on account of the change in colour, it is possibly prudent to err on the side of caution!
Good Luck & Godspeed!
