What Causes Dry Flaky Skin Around The Bellybutton And Buttocks?

Posted on Sat, 19 Apr 2014
Question: Around the top half of my bellybutton and the top few inches of my butt crack i have flaking dry and split skin. Sometimes it itches very bad. I try not to itch it. I put anti itch cream on it and it made the itch way more intense. I have not had these symptoms until about two months ago. I hoped good hygene would take care of it. But today i noticed that it was not just dry and flaky, it was actually splitting and there is small sores now. (Maybe 1/4" long and 1/16" wide.) That formed around my bellybutton because of splitting skin. The skin on my rear is not split but is darker than the surrounding and very dry. I have been trying to drink lots of water. I did have severe dry mouth at night for a while. That caused my tongue to split and for about a week i had 5 or 6 taste buds "die" which was painful. The increased water has gotten rid of that. But the sore on my backside is the same and the bellybutton became itchy about a week ago and now it is split. The sore on my rear also seemed to spread about an inch downwards.

Brief Answer: ...... Detailed Answer: Hi there... Thanks for writing in..... Allergies are a possibility... Have you bought a new pair of jeans....or belt...in last 2months.It is possible that you might be reacting to metal button of the jeans etc. Any change in soaps/detergents recently...? I would advise you to wear cotton clothes. Rinse the clothes thoroughly to avoid any traces of detergents which might be the cause. Switch to hypoallergenic bathing soaps. Good that you are drinking enough water......and maintaining good hygiene.... Regards, Dr. Divya Kuttikrishnan

Brief Answer: .... Detailed Answer: Hi.... You are welcome.... Also, weight is an issue...It is also possible that if you did put on some weight around the waist and the jeans was tight....the constant friction of skin rubbing against fabric and button might have caused the rash... Try to lose weight gradually. Regular exercise 30 minutes a day 5 days a week. Get a personal trainer to help you out at the gym, if necessary. Drink warm water at regular intervals ...It will help improve digestion and increase metabolism. Diet ,anyway you are already following a healthy diet. Avoid oily deep fried food. Include steamed vegetables, salads, fruits etc. Take care... Regards, Dr. Divya Kuttikrishnan
