Brief Answer:
Read below

Detailed Answer:
I read your question carefully and I understand your concern.

That description and the area involved is not indicative of any dangerous condition, such a localized sensation is not a manifestation of a brain or spinal cord issue, so you have no reason to be alarmed.
One possible explanation could be impingement of the lateral femoral cutaneous nerve which can manifest with abnormal sensations in the thigh. It can happen without a cause but often is favored by obesity, diabetes or tight clothing (like belts). Generally when it is not the painful form (called meralgia paresthetica) no treatment is needed, loose clothing or weight loss may make the symptoms disappear.

I hope to have been of help.
