Question : Loosing my mind -- had unprotected sex with a prostitute 8 dats ago. Have flu like symptoms. Sore throat, upset stomach, aches. Took tests yesterday but worried too soon (all std and hiv rna) even if neg, which will be 5 days at least anyway. Loosing my mind!!!

The chances of transmission of HIV by unprotected intercourse with a HIV positive person is 1/200 to 1/1000 .It is low. She may be negative too.You can get her tested if possible .
HIV RNA PCR after s a sensitive test after 4 days exposure. But it is more sensitive after 10 days.You can go for HIV 1&2 RNA PCR after 10 days .

So you are saying that even if she was positive the chances of contracted from a positive person are half of a percent at best?

Based on the flu like symptoms should I be more concerned about a different sti?

The symptoms may be due to respiratory infection due to respiratory contact with the person or any other person too.It is not specific to any disease including HIV.

Yes .There will be risk for other STDs.It depends on the STDs in the person.She may be negative for STDs too.Moreover you do not have any STDs symptoms.

You can observe for any symptoms like rash,water filled lesions,ulcer,lymph nide swellings,urethral discharge etc. Usually they manifest by 2-3 weeks.But some may not have any symptoms.

The symptoms described may not be due to STDs.
