What Do My Blood Test Reports Indicate?

Question: I don't understand a few of my blood tests. Chloride at 110 (reference 98-108; ALT at 6 (reference 10-57); eGFR Non Africian - 43 (no reference); Hemoglobin A1c LC - 5.8 (reference 4.8-5.6) - {Increased risk for diabetes - 5.7 - 6.4.

I am an 84 year old woman with COPD.

Hello,

You don't have to worry about the chloride, ALT, Hemoglobin A1c because they're OK. The chloride is a little higher than normal but this kind of "abnormality" is not important in a patient like you. The most likely explanation is COPD.
Low ALT is never a problem and it may occur in normal individuals but it's more prevalent in patients with low nutrition and azotemia.
The low eGFR reflects your kidney functionality. 43mL/min is a low value since a young individual will have 100 or more. At your age it's almost expected but perhaps it's a little (only a little though) lower than expected. Sometimes transient elevations in creatinine levels may affect the eGFR value, so don't worry too much about it. Your doctor who knows your medical history in detail is the better person to assess your kidney functionality.
