What Does A Hard Knot At Umbilical Hernia Site Indicate?

default
Posted on Thu, 25 Jun 2015
Question: About 40 years ago I had a umbilical hernia repaired. In the intervening years I adopted a daily exercise regimen which includes at least four abdominal procedures. Recently I noticed a hard knot at the spot of the hernia repair. I immediately stopped the abdominal exercises. Is this condition the result of too much exercise? How can I revert this area back to normal.

Brief Answer:
Possibly yes.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query and an elucidate history.

Read and understood that you had umbilical hernia repair 40 years ago - exercises - hard knot at the spot of hernia repair - wants to know whether this is due to too much exercises and how to revert back...

First of all, let me tell you that the chances of development of a hernia after 40 years is very rare to hear of as the body remodels everything nicely.
The chances of development of hernia are the same whether repaired or not.

Yes, but it is possibly a hernia.
If this is hernia, it has classical characters of expansibility on straining or coughing, reducibility on lying down or on manual pressing.
If these two signs are present, it is then a hernia.
I would request you to get this confirmed from a General Surgeon and then only the further course of action can be decided...

I hope this answers your query.
