10 Year Kid, Sore Throat, Red, Right Ear Popping, Little Congested. Is This Starting Of Strep?

My ten year old son had a sore throat yesterday when he would swallow, now it is all the time. He is complaining of his right ear popping. He is a little congested, but not much. No runny nose, he coughs a few times a day, but not much. His throat is a little red, no white bumps. Could this be the start of strep?

Hi,

Thanks for writing to health care magic.

Only a throat swab for culture would tell you if the problem is because of streptococcus or not.

So get a throat swab for culture and sensitivity done after physical examination by your doctor.

Antibiotics may be required if the diagnosis is confirmed.

Hope this helps.
Take care.
