Your son needs proper clinical examination and investigations.
Investigations include routine hemogram, stool(routine and microscopic examination),ultrasound of abdomen. Further investigations may be done if needed.
You should consult surgeon.
There are various causes of rectal bleeding. It may be due to polyps, diverticulitis etc.
Proper treatment can be given after clinical examination and investigation reports.
Hello and welcome to HCM, The most common cause of blood in stools is infection. You can consult your pediatrician without waiting. A stool examination- routine and microscopy will help to detect the infection in the stool. In case any infectious agent is detected, anti-microbial drug can be prescribed by your doctor. There are other causes of blood in stools, some of which are- mesenteric vein occlusion, polyp in the intestine, ulcer, rectal prolapse, etc. If the infection is ruled out, you can consult a gastroenterologist for investigations to rule out these conditions. Hernial repair done 10 years back is unlikely to produce this symptom however, a complete examination of the gastro-intestinal tract can help to know the cause.
