16 Year Old Had A Grand Mal Seizure. Had Convulsions, Foaming From The Mouth. History Of Complex Partial Seizures In Childhood

My son had what I would say is a grand mal seizure today. He hit the floor , I was downstairs and heard a thud sound, ran upstairs and found him on the floor, arms and legs stiff and straight as a board, body shaking, convulsing and foaming at the mouth, eyes looking upward and fixed . Neuro office closed today will call in the morning but really shocked this happened. He used to have complex partial seizures as a toddler, stopped depakote when he was 12, now 16 yrs old

Neurologist 's  Response
Hi,Thank you for posting your query.Based on what you described, your son seems to have had a generalized tonic clonic seizure, and it requires treatment.Depakote (sodium valproate) is a good medicine , which may have to be restarted, and continued long term to prevent any further seizures. Please get back if you require any additional information. Best wishes, Dr Sudhir Kumar MD (Internal Medicine), DM (Neurology) Senior Consultant Neurologist Apollo Hospitals, Hyderabad,My personal URL on this website: http://bit.ly/Dr-Sudhir-kumar My email: drsudhirkumar@yahoo.com
