2.5 Year Kid, Severe Constipation For 3 Months. Taking Medication, Using Suppositories. Suggestions?

Our daughter 2 and half years old having severe constipation since three months old. Now giving her daily three times Lactulose solution (Duphalac) and every three days Cremaffin 15 ml at night and the fouth day morning 15ml. But even with this she does not pass motion and we have to use suppositors. Is it ok to give this medicines for long time? Now we are giving this for almost two months regularly as per our child specilist advice. Please give your valuable opinion.

Thanks for the question. Your child seems to be suffering from habitual constipation which is very common in that age group due to toilet training issues. Its not advisable to use suppositories and bowel irritants like cremaffin but can use stool softeners for some period. Best advice is to get thorough per rectal examination by paediatric surgeon to rule out causes like underlying fissures and get proper treatment
