adenoid enlargement and tonsil enlargement is common in this age group. adenoid enlargement if not treated can lead to middle ear infection by blockin the nasal cavity , so antibiotic administration is important, alon wid that he requires other supportive care - clearing his nasal passage wid salaine nasal drops, stopping his runny nose with citrizine, giving him a warm water sponge bath every 6 hrs once to reduce fever and prevent febrile seizures, maintaining nutrition and hydration, steam inhalation . and if the fever is continuing for more than 5 days he ll require a complete blood test count , a throat swab for culture.
What is more worrying here is the high grade fever as this age group is susceptible to febrile convulsions.
Please ensure that paracetamol is given along with tepid sponging to keep the temperature in the normal range.
Adenoid hypertrophy is common in this age group and this gland continues to grow in size till around 10-12 years of age.
However excessive growth can cause mouth breathing and sleep disturbances. since you have not mentioned anything related to this you need not worry.
So wait for the antibiotics to act and complete the course. In the meantime ensure a good fluid intake for your child and encourage regular sips of water and juice.
