7 Weeks Child Tested With Sickle Cell. What Are The Symptoms? Can One Get It This Young?
My name is Amanda. I really would like to know about any information on sickle cell in newborns around the age of 6 weeks old. My daughter will be 7 weeks old this friday and has already had 2 newborn screenings. Both of which came back with results of sickle cell. The doctors would like for me to have further testing done by sending a vial of her blood to a specialist for sickle cell disease. I know that a person could be a carrier of the gene and only have the trait and not the the full actual disease. But if she did turn out to have either of the disease or the trait, are there any signs I could look for right now at her young age that are of sickle cell? I am asking because I have done some research and some signs listed are saying they shouldnt start until between 6 mos and 1 yr of age but she is having them now and since the day she was born. I need to know as much as I can know just in case I need to be prepared.
