Addicted To Lortab 10 For About 5 Yrs, Been Out Of Pain Medicines, Feels Crazy. What Should I Do ?

Hey, I have been on Lortab 10 for about 5 years! Yes I have become addicted to them and because of this I have two doctors that give me the same meds every month. Last week one of my doctors call and said that He could not write me any more Rx because someone called in and said I was getting meds from another Doctor as well as Him. I have been out of my pain meds for about 3 days and I am just about crazy. I do need the painkillers due to the bulging disk In my back, morbidly obesity, and chronic arthritis. I don't know what to do because I have tried other drugs that were to strong and made me to sleepy to work such as Oxycodone, Percocet, & Demerol. I have tried drugs that don't help at all such as Neurontin, Cymbalta, Ibuprophen, Tylenol, Advil, Aleve, naproxen, & tramadol. I have also tried heating pads and rubbing creams (Rx & OTC). I was told by my doctor to move to the next drug higher and I refused to do it because I have read all the horror stories of withdrawal from class II & III drugs. I would rather stay on the class I drug that I am on. What should I do?

Hi, thanks for using healthcare

I am sorry for the pain that you are experiencing.

You may need to speak to your doctor about the use of the lortab, if there have been episodes of excess use you should discuss this openly with him.
Some doctors suggest a pain contract so that guidelines regarding the use of pain killers can be established.
If the guidelines are not adhered to then it affect further care. YOu can suggest your willingness to adhere to any guidelines he establishes.

In addition it may be helpful to speak to a counsellor regarding any over use of medication.

I hope this helps
