Are 3% Hb A2 And 5.2% Hb A2 Medically OK To Get Married ?

Dear Sir, I m 32, male. Going to marry a lady of 28 yrs. We have undertaken HPLC test for thalassemia testing. I m carrying 0% Hb F & 3% Hb A2, while she is carrying 0% Hb F & 5.2% Hb A2. Is it medically OK for our happy married life? If any complications suspected, pls advise further Tests so that we can have specific information.

normal value of hba2 is 2 -3.5%.
u have normal value but she has mild high level.
so she need to do repeat test and DNA analysis to conform test.
better to do repeat test at other lab

hi welcome,

The expected normal range for HbA2 is between 1.7 and 3.2% in normal subjects, while in β-thalassaemia carriers is between 4.0 and 7%.

HbA2 values are considered borderline when between 3.2 and 3.8%.

Samples with these levels need further investigation

The normal range for HbF is usually less than 1.5% of total haemoglobin.

you go for further confirmatory by repeating the same test for her


any way these are the tests she is suspected for beta Thalassemia
