Are Both Oflomac(macleods)and Oflox Syp(50g) Similar Drugs?

Hello Doctor this is Harish Vyas from Pune, we just gave an anti typhoid dose to my son who is two years old and since then he had high temperature and loose motions(7-8 times) he is not taking any food. As it was a Sunday yesterday i had no option to take him to a Pediatrician i took him to my family doctor he prescribe Oflomac(macleods). I took my son to another Pediatrician who prescribed Oflox syp(50g). I want to understand if both these medicines are the same or they are different are there any side effects ?

Hi Harish,

You are right, both medicines are the same. They contain the same active ingredient (ofloxacin), a wide spread antibiotic used to fight infection. It is an antibiotic of quinolone group.

With regards to side effects, the worst ones include allergic reactions (look for signs of itching, swelling in your son).

Gastro-intestinal complains are the most common including diarrhea, vomiting, nausea, loss of appetite. I'd suggest to give otc probiotics, tasectan and o.r.s to stop diarrhea, optimizes intestinal flora and prevent dehydration.

Please continue following up with pediatrician to prevent sever complications.

All the best!
