Sir
I am Thomas, a teacher, hailing from Kerala. I have been married for 3 years now. This letter is meant for my wife, , 28 years, who has been suffering from Epilepsy for the last 15 years. She first had it when she was 13 years old. She consulted a doctor who has prescribed medicines to her but the exact names of the medicines are not known.
She developed the problem now and then till 24-08-98 when she consulted a professor at Kottayam Medical College. She has been advised to take Zen 200 mg for 60 days and gradually reduced the dosage and stopped. But aftr 60 days (On 24-10-98), she had seizure again.
Since then, she has been asked to take Valparin 200 mg and Zen 100 mg twice a day for one month and stopped. She did not have any seizure for three years but one on 24-10-2001.
From then, she has been given Valparin Chrono 300 mg, for three months, 200 mg for another 3 months and 100 mg for another 2 months and stopped.
But again on 23-12-2002, she had seizure, putting her parents in a pathetic condition. Then the doctor advised to take the Valparin 200 mg twice a day continuously for six years and gradually stopped the medicines in 2008 August. She got pregnant in the month of September 2008 and at last, just few hours before her delivery, that means, on 12th June 2009, she got another seizure. Doctor had told us that the decease has been subsided and she will no longer experience the problem.
She has been asked to take Valparin chrono 300 mg continuously.
When we reached here from Kerala, we consulted a doctor at hyd, on 10 Jan’ 2010. He prescribed Valrate 300 mg for sixty days but she had seizure meanwhile. So he increased the dosage to Valrate 500 mg at night and 300 mg in the morning since 14 Feb’ 2010, and still continuing. As we had baby and my wife working in a school from morning 8 am to 5.30 pm, doctor asked to continue it for another six months with some vitamin supplements.
Now she has lost her weight for approx. 4 kgs and became very anxious about it. I too in the same condition. As my daughter grows up, I am little worried about her too, that it may goes to her or not.
I am even not able to take my wife a ride on my bike, or even go to bathroom alone. She has to go to bed early and should not wake her while she was sleeping. I don’t know what to do. I am very much worried about her.
Is there any cure for the epilepsy? Any surgycal procedures?
Many of my students who had epilepsy in the early childhood seem to have recovered from it. But, my wife, who has been taking medicines for many years as not recovered from it, but compelled to take very high dosage medicines at this age and in the future it may needed to be increased.
Please advise me.....Please..............about any surgical procedures to cure this and cost.
Thomas
