Thank you for the query.
As per the history, you are 62 yrs old (gender not mentioned), hypertensive for the past 2 yrs which is well controlled with Metaloc XL 100mg (i.e metaprolol).
I would like to enquire what kind of side effects are you experiencing with metoprolol. Metoprolol belongs to a class of drugs known as cardioselective beta blockers. The common side effects experienced with this drug are - nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, bradycardia (i.e low heart rate), tiredness, fatigue, increased blood sugar levels, sometimes hair loss and aggravation of bronchial asthma (though this side effect is rare with cardioselective beta blockers). Very rarely some subjects may experience, low neutrophil count of white blood cells (agranulocytosis).
In this context, I would recommend that if you are experiencing intolerable side effects either your Metoprolol dose may be reduced or you need to switchover to another class of antihypertensive drugs like Calcium channel blockers, ACE inhibitors or ARBlockers. Complete withdrawal of antihypertensive drug may lead to sudden increase in BP levels (associated with complications). Please do remember that presently your BP is controlled because you are on Metoprolol presently.
It is suggested you visit your treating physician who can adjust your medications.
Hope this helps you out.
