Are Tiredness And Weakness Due To The Over Use Of Aspirin?

I recently had a CBC done because of complaints of tiredness and weakness and not being able to walk any distance without resting. MY WBC was 2.5 nd my HGB was 8.9, my HCT was 27 nd my RBC was 2.41.

I was wondering if an overuse of aspirin (365 daily plus ibuprophen plus zantac & Tums could have induced this. I had an EKG done last week , which was normal. I did have a cardiac ablation 1 year ago.

I am 77 years old.

Thanks,

Hello dear!
I have gone through your medical history and i have understood your concerns.

From the results of your CBC you seem to have a moderate anemia which explains all your symptoms (tiredness and weakness). You have used two drugs such as aspirin and ibuprofen for a long time. It is possible that these drugs have caused you problems with the anemia. They harm the mucosa of the stomach if are used for a long time.

I would recommend you to have some simple analysis to determine the origin of anemia.
- The first is "Ocult blood in stools"
- The second is "Sideremia and Ferritinemia"

The first analysis indicates if you have gastrointestinal bleeding due to use of aspirin and ibuprofen
The second indicates the levels of iron in blood and body deposits.
Talk to the doctor who has prescribed aspirin to see the possibility for alternative painkillers which don't harm gastric mucosa.

Regarding to the results, you have to take the medication as prescribed by the doctor, a hematologist would be better in your case.

Have a good day!
Sincerely,
DR ERIOL.
