Baby Having Constant Cold, Running Nose. Taken Calpol, Anti-biotics, Abidec. No Relief. Allergic Reaction, Reason, Treatment?

My daughter is 2 years old and she constantly gets cold. Common cold medicines like Calpol does not have any effect on her and it goes to a stage where we need to give her anti-biotics. This was repeated for a while and then we showed her to our paediatrician in India and he said she might be suffering from allergic reactions. Is there a way to find the factors that triggers her cold ? She also goes to day care full day. Will that be a reason for triggering her cold. This is because she always has running nose and finds it difficult to sleep in the night.Any help is much appreciated. We give multi-vitamin everyday (Abidec - 5ml). Any help will be much appreciated.

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,
Thank you for your query,
Repeated cold may be due to frequent exposure to cold causing viruses and getting the cold or due to having allergic rhinitis which may be seasonal or through out the year.
Calpol contains paracetamol and it works for fever and not indicated in cold unless there is associated fever is there.
And in cold there is no need for antibiotic as most of the common cold is caused by viruses and antibiotic is not required.
Oral antihistamines like cetirizine or chlorpheniramine will help to decrease running nose and for nose block you can give nasal drops.
If it is due to allergic rhinitis long acting antihistamines and montelukast and steroid nasal spray will be helpful with avoiding any culprit allergen.
So be in regular follow up with your Pediatrician to advise your child a proper medication.
Hope i have answered your query.
