Baby Having Diarrhoea, Green Stools. Prescribed Zinc Sulphate. Head Circumference Slowing Down. Suggestions?

Hi, My two month girl infant had diarrhea 10 days ago, her doctor prescribed a stool test for any possible test but the result was found no virus, doctor prescribed zinc sulphate. after five days her diarrhea was disappeared but her stool remains green. Her Head Circumference growth became slow, at birth it was 35 and at month one it was 37, but at month 2( now) , it is 37 centimeters. I am really worried, what must be done for my baby to grow normally? Stool examination result: Color Brown ( but it looks like green), Consistency Formed, WBC 2-3, RBC Not seen, Undigested food not seen, fatty drops not seen, ova of Parasites not seen, Protozoa Cyst Not seen, Trophozoite not seen

hello...

Though i don't doubt the diagnosis made by your doctor as he would be in a better position to assess the condition of your child than me,

But still....

Green stool - is because of Bile is not digested by intestine, Intestine is not matured to digest bile.
If stool is still green by the time it is excreted from the body, it could mean that it went through the large intestine too fast to be changed to brown. This is often called "rapid transit" or "decreased colonic transit time," and diarrhea that is green in color could be the result

In Diarrhea important thing is watch for Dehydration Sign. (low urine out put, sunken eyes, Absent tear less, drowsiness, Lethargic, Abdominal distention, Restlessness etc)

Pediatric opinion:
1.If your child dehydrate.
2.Stool with blood
3.Stool with mucus(White sticky discharge)
4.High Grade fever.

I would advice:
keep her/ him Hydrate. Is most important condition in diarrhea
1.Give plenty of water(1/2 liter water+ 4 tsf sugar+ 1/2 tsf salt) Or ORS
2. Proper hygiene.
3. Exclusively Breast feed.
4.For Green stool - (Home remedies) vavdig (vidang)1/4 tsf + Ajavayan 1/4 tsf + !0 ml water made
decoration. 5 drops 3 times in day after feed.
5. Watch for weight. It should not be decrease

hello there,
as far as the stool report is concerned, its normal and it may take few days for the stool colour to become normal. the green color is because of bacteria that colonize the intestines and they are not harmful as they are communal.
it is very normal to very green coloured stool post diarrhea in children, so you need bot worry.

regarding the head circumference, at two months the head circumference of 37 cm is within normal limits. there may be some interpersonal variation in taking the head circumference. you should assess some milestones like social smile recognising mother that is generally there at two months.
if these things are normal probably there is nothing to worry and followup every 15 day is all that is needed.
but anyway, it would be better if you get an advice by a pediatrician who can physically examine her for any neurological problem.

hope my answer guides you towards a solution
thanks for the query
amit
