Bleeding During Pregnancy. Ultrasound Shows Bulky Uterus And Uterine Fibroids. What Should Be Done?

Dear Doctor, Two weeks ago, my wife tested to being pregnant. However she started bleeding and was given medication that would assist in stopping the bleeding which stopped. Later she was sent for utrasound and obtained the following results; retroverted and bulky uterus , subserosal uterine fibroids measuring 1.25cm and 1.82cm. No intrauterine or extrauterine gestatine. Pouch of douglas is clear. In conclusion Small uterine fibroids. What do this results mean and what should be done? Regards, Frank

Hi thanks for your question.
The ultra sound report of your wife is normal except that she is having small fibroid in uterus. The size of fibroid is very small and doesn’t need any intervention. It only needs monitoring by ultra sound. If the size of fibroids increases or it interferes with conception (becoming pregnant) in near feature it needs to be removed. The bulky uterus means uterus is slightly increased in size .This happens during pregnancy, since abortion has taken place uterus will come back to normal size after few weeks.
