Bleeding , Swelling In Leg Since Walked Into Wooden Pallet. X-ray Showed Nothing. Help?
About 3 weeks ago I walked into a wooden pallet, in the dark, right about shin high on my leg. It immediately began to bleed and swell. I went to the doctor within 3 days after the pallet incident, x rays were taken, nothing broken but ALOT of bruising and pain. I have since been seeing a doctor 2 times a week and have changed antibiotics 3 times until we fond one that seems to be taking the infection out. I'am on crutches and have an MRI scheduled for tomorrow morning because we cannot seems to get all the swelling off the shin bone itself. What am I up against? October 20th will be 4 weeks.
Unrelenting pain after an open injury (break in the skin exposing the underlying structures) indicates an underlying infection.
You need an evaluation which includes a set of blood investigations like ESR, C-reactive protein, Blood culture, an MRI scan of the injured area which will show up the status of soft tissues along with any abnormal collections of either fluid or pus inside and presence of infective focus in the bone.
The definitive treatment depends on the condition diagnosed.
Hope this information is helpful. Good day
