Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My mother s doctor called to inform her that her blood work revealed anemia and that her results for a papsmear came back and that she would need a pelvic ultrasound but did not explain or elaborate as to what or why. I am worried. My mom had fibroids many years ago. she has already gone through menopause and is 62. she has low blood pressure , hypothyroidism and a history of familial hemiplegic migraines.
The doctor might have called her to explain the reports.
As she is having anemia, the causes of anemia has to be rule out by doing ultrasound abdomen and pelvis to look for any masses in the organs of abdomen and pelvis.
Ultrasound will monitor the size of existing fibroid, thickness of endometrium.
So nothing to worry without consulting the doctor.
Consult the doctor along with your mother and discuss your concerns.
Hello user, As your mothers history suggests she had fibroids years back, she is 62 years old, and she is anemic.
I think your doctor want to see if the anemia is caused by the fibroid, which mostly presents with bleeding from vagina, which is nowhere mentioned in your history.
The other reason of the pelvic ultrasound is that, the pap smear might have come positive, so just to confirm if your mom didn't have cervical/uterine problem, he had asked for Ultrasonography.
hope my info helped you regards, Dr Hari Om Chandrakar MBBS
