Bruised Swollen Thigh After An Injury. Need To Get Checked?

Hello,

About a week ago, I hit my inner thigh very hard on the corner of a small box. It has bruised but every couple of days the bruise looks larger. It started out being quarter sized but I just noticed tonight that it has grown to 2" in diameter. It is also swollen. There is a center about the size of a pencil eraser that is not discolored but has a small lump under it. Should I go to have it looked at?

Thank you!
Caryn

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Dear Caryn,
This is normal process of healing. It has started healing so clearing up from centre. You may take over the counter medicine like Paracetamol (Panadol -Acetaminophen), You may apply some ointment like Thrombophobe if it is available to you but if not then just application of hot water bag thrice daily will expadiate process of healing. If there is continuous pain and swelling irrespective of this treatment after about 5 -7 days more then you should consult your GP for further evaluation.
