Burps At Night At Regular Interval When He Lies Left, Bad Reflux. Had Blood Disease Called PNH

Hello
Please could you help. My husband has a rare blood disease called PNH (paroxysmal nocturnal haemoglobinuria) he has developed an odd thing. When he lies on his left side he burps a lot and it seems as though he has re gas than usual to burp out. But he also make small burping sounds at regular intervals if he continues to lie on his left side but these don't actually release any air. Its very odd. I'm a bit concerned as this is a fairly new thing for my husband. He used to have really bad reflux and would choke at night oftern but now he just burps. He is 31 years old. Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

Hello!

Thank you for the query.

Burping can be a symptom of some stomach or esophageal issue including peptic ulcer, stomach inflammation, Helicobacter Pylori infection or even stomach cancer. It is very important to have it under control when the symptoms start to change and something new appears.
Chronic acid reflux can cause esophageal inflammation what increases cancer risk (Baretts esophagus).
Stomach is constructed in such way that the food can travel from left to right side (from stomach to duodenum). So when he lies on the right side, food can easily travel to the intestine. When he lies on left side, gravity keeps the food in the stomach and digesting is impeded.

I suggest your husband to visit a doctor and have gastroscopy done.

Hope this will help.
Regards.
