Can HIV Be Transferred Through Saliva? Is A Test Required?

Hi,
I was talking with person who, I guess, can be HIV infected, and a small drop of his saliva got into my eye. I'm worried that the person could have some wounds in the mouth, and that drop which got into my eye was a blood. I know that the risk in such situation is extremely small or essentially nonexistent, but still, there is a risk. I asked some specialists if there's a need to do a HIV test in such situation, and all of them told me there's no need for it. I have a few questions - do you agree that in this situation I don't need to do a test? If yes, could you please explain me why there's no need to do a test. I can't understand why they say that I don't need to do it, as there was a risk in such situation, even if it was small.
Thank you for you answer.

Hi,

Interesting query. Thanks for the post.

In my opinion, you do not need to test. Simply because, HIV is not transmitted this way. Even if it was the drop of blood that entered your eyes, it does not enter systemic circulation from there. Also, the lysozymes in the eyes would destroy the virus.

Anyways, by all means, it is better you are tested just to be sure of everything and to be self-satisfied about it.

I hope this helps. You must relax and move on in life.

Take care!

Hello friend,
You should have a realistic approach to health issues.
You are too much worried about the event of falling a drop of saliva of another person into your eye. You have made a lot of imaginations over that. You suspect that the person might have been HIV+. Also he must have had a wound in his mouth, the saliva coming from the mouth must have blood in it . It must be carrying HIV . The HIV falling into your eye is going to make you HIV+ and finally you will become an AIDS patient and you will die of AIDS.
I have to pity over your anxiety. This is all because of some wrong norms and ideas the medical science has given to the public in the initial period of HIV/AIDS invention. Dear friend, take it from me no virus or bacteria can unconditionally make you sick. No seed fallen on the rock will produce a plant. There should have favourable environments for the seed to grow. Similarly no HIV can kill you unless you have a susceptibility for that. Your type of anxiety is a bad condition for your health. If this out of control fear persists in your mind , it will reduce your immunity. It is not the virus that makes you sick. It is the fear. Here the fear is associated with a fear of death because, the HIV/AIDS is an icon developed by the society and the people with vested interests as equivalent to death. In reality, any virus or or bacteria thrive on your body only if you are susceptible for its growth.
Therefore my advise to you is to understand the realities behind the HIV infection in the right manner. You have made a lot of dangerous projections in your mind.
If you are not yet convinced, then there is nothing wrong in getting all the tests done to remain free from mental fear you are suffering.
Hope you are satisfied by my answer
Best wishes.
