Can Morphine Be Taken While On Hospice Care?

My 91 year old dad, stroke victim, fell at his assisted living home. Was checked out in er. Nothing broken and no bleeding in his brain area. Were worried as hospice program just took him off eleiquis as the fall probably will make him sore . hospice prescribed morphine. He is taking lots of meds including small dose of trazadone to sleep. I m worried he may be taking too much and it could cause more problems than it helps. Is there a more mild painkiller he should be taking? Is morphine the drug of choice for hospice? He s not on deaths door, just maintaining him and if he turns for the worse keeping him comfortable.

If your father's pain is not severe non-opiate painkillers can be considered. Depending on the cause of the pain non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), acetaminophen or antidepressants may be used in low to moderate pain. But, if he has severe pain the most effective painkillers are opiates,

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
