Can A Sinus Infection Cause Tinnitus And Hearing Loss?

Hello, I took Ciprodex for 8 days, 6 drops every night for outer ear inflammation in left ear. Twice, I took a few drops in the morning when my ear was hurting. On the 8th evening, I left the drops in my ear and fell asleep. Later that evening, I woke up with tinnitus in that ear. In addition to the ear inflammation, I've been experiencing a sense of fullness in that ear. I'm being treated for a sinus infection and I'm taking clindomycin for it. Is Ciprodex ototoxic? Could it have caused tinnitus or hearing loss and will that clear up in time?

Hi Dear ,

As per your query you had sinus infection and you think it cause tinnitus and hearing loss . Well the symptoms you mention in query can occur due to may reasons like acoustic neuroma , ear wax builup , TMJ problem , inner ear infection , age related hearing loss and condition like meniere's disease . I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist for proper examination . Doctor may order test like hearing test , vitals , blood test , examination with otoscope and CT scan . Doctor may remove wax , prescribe antibiotics in case of infection , anti inflammatory , corticosteroid ear drops , recommend surgery and may refer you to dentist in case of TMJ related probelms . Fow noe apply warm dry compresses , start taking ginkgo biloba supplement and drink green tea thrice a day .
