Can A Slight Protrusion From The Pubic Area Be Hernia?

My 16 son just showed me a slight protrusion, sticking out about 1/4in, on the left side of his pubis, i'm not sure if its a hernia and sometimes he says it hurts and sometimes he says it don't. i am worried it may be a hernia but i am not sure. He lifts weights for football, and also is a kicker.

Hello
Thanks for your query, based on the facts that you have posted it appears that your 16 years old son has swelling in the groin on left side.suspected to be Inguinal Hernia.

This can be confirmed only on clinical examination by a qualified General Surgeon.

Please consult General surgeon for clinical assessment to confirm the diagnosis.

If positive surgery is the only treatment option and he will need to undergo surgery for hernia repair.
