Can Cough Lead To Bronchitis In A Child?

Good morning. My 3 month old son has been coughing for a week now. It started with a cold but the usual symptoms have subsided but his cough is getting worse - dry cough with a dry heave at the end. Do I have to worry about progression toward bronchitis?

Hi... I understand your concern. But it is too early to predict the evolution of bronchitis. At this age, the most common viral illness is respiratory syncytial virus causing acute bronchiolitis.

You need not worry about the cough unless the baby is having fast breathing or respiratory distress and inability to feed.

Usually this sort of viral associated cough may last, two weeks to settle down completely.
