Can Delay In Putting Nuvaring Cause Lack Of Protection?

i am currently using the nuvaring as birth control. i was supposed to put it in friday morning and take it out the following friday morning. Well I forgot and now its Sunday afternoon. I put the nuvaring in this afternoon and I was wondering since im only a few days late am i still protected? also do I have to change the day I take it out to sunday afternoon or is it still on to take it out in three weeks on friday morning?

Hello,

Yes, delay in putting NuvaRing may cause lack of protection if you had unprotected sex that time when you had taken no regular or emergency CP within 72 hours of unprotected sex. Since you are late, wait for a couple of days. No worries if you get your periods. In case you miss your periods get urine & blood test done to confirm pregnancy. You can get clinically examined by a gynae to detect ectopic pregnancy. You can start using NuvaRing at any time during your cycle.

If you start using it during the first 5 days of your period, it will work right away and you won't need backup birth control. But if you start on any other day of your cycle, it takes 7 days to be protected from pregnancy. NuvaRing is inserted in the vagina in the first five days of your period and should be kept in place for 3 weeks (21 days). Regularly check that NuvaRing is in your vagina (for example, before and after intercourse) to ensure that you are protected from pregnancy. Remove the NuvaRing for a 1-week break (7 days).
