Hi,I am Diwashish Biswas (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I was taking Diuretics for High blood pressure, however I started to feel cramps in my arms, then my legs and now my rig cage area. Also, legs feel fatigued. I stopped the diuretics after 15 days, I did not supplement any pottasium rich foods during that time. I am wondering, could it be that I am lack from low pottasium? I told my doctor and he gave me 8 meq a day of pottasium chloride. How long would it take for me to have my levels go up again.
YES DIURETICS DO CAUSE HYPOKALEMIA BUT THEY ARE BENEFICIAL IN THAT THEY CAUSE VASODILATION IN THE LONGTERM IN ADDITION TO DECREASING PRELOAD IN SHORT TERM.
I WOULD ADVISE AGAINST TAKING K SUPPLEMENTS, PLZ DO A BLOOD LEVEL IF BETWEEN 3.5 TO 5.5, THEN NO NEED TO SUPPLEMENT.
LET ME KNOW THE LIST OF MEDICINE YOU ARE USING CURRENTLY SO THAT I CAN ALTER THE MEDICINE ACCORDINGLY.
IN LOW DOSES K LOSS CAN BE EASILY COMPENSATED JUST VIA DIET.
THANX. HV A NICE DAY
