Can Fibroids Cause 'period Like' Bleeding In The First Trimester Of Pregnancy?

Hello. I have three small fibroids which have caused heavy bleeding in the past. My periods were lasting over 2 weeks. In 2008 I was put on the contraceptive Yaz and this stopped the excessive bleeding. Late September last year I got married and stopped the pill to try and conceive. I had another scan which shows that my fibroids had grown slightly, but the biggest was only 18mm. October, November and December's periods were on time and appeared 'normal' for me: heavy bleeding on days 2,3, and 4 and then a few days of light bleeding/old blood. January and February's periods have been different: 1 - 2 days late, 3 days of spotting with a few clots and brown 'strings', then nothing for a few days, then a couple of days of light flow. I took a home pregnancy test late January after the first odd cycle, but neither the control line or the pregnancy line worked. My question is, can fibroids cause 'period like' bleeding in the first trimester, and am I silly for thinking I might be pregnant will still getting these light periods? I plan to take another home test this week, but if it's negative should I bother going to the doctor, or is that silly? I've also had increased acne, some fatigue, and a metallic taste in my mouth. Thank you for your time.
