Can I Take Tylenol Istead Of Ibuprofen?

I have been taking Protonix for 1 month since diagnosed with GERD. I saw my doctor and hep rescribed Doxycycline 100mg twice a day for a double ear infection and sinusitis ( head pressure for a week ) my doctor also told me to take Ibuprofen for the pain. Should I not use the ibuprofen and use Tylenol instead. He said ibuprofen would help the swelling but I am worried about the reflux symptoms. I have a sour taste in my mouth still and feel like I have phlegm with post nasal drip. I have an ENT appointment in 4 days but am so tired of being sick. I am 26 and weigh 260lbs. Would you suggest doubling the Protonix to decrease the GERD symptoms while on the Doxycycline ? He also called in Levaquin just in case I want to stop the doxycycline. ( FYI. I am very anxious about drugs and their side effects. I usually don t take anything more than Tylenol ).

Hello
Welcome to HCM, thank you for posting your query.
I understand your concern. Ibuprofen is a non steroid anti-inflammatory drug along with being a analgesic where as Tylenol(paracetamol) is only analgesic. So it better to take ibuprofen over paracetamol. Also Ibuprofen is a milder NSAID with less gastro intestinal side effects, so chances of reflux is less.
I wouldn't suggest doubling Protonix to decrease the GERD symptoms while on doxycycline. Pantoprozole once daily dose is sufficient.
Hope this information was helpful to you. Get well soon.
Regards.
